About Betsy

Betsy is a partner at Dicke, Billig & Czaja, PLLC and practices in the area of intellectual property law. Betsy is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota.

Betsy’s practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, the preparation and prosecution of trademark applications, coordinating and assisting with foreign patent and trademark prosecution, patentability analysis, trademark availability analysis, infringement analysis, validity analysis, litigation support, license agreements, strategic intellectual property planning, worldwide intellectual property management support, and client counseling.

For the last 15 years, Betsy has assisted start-up and multi-national companies in the development of their technology.  Prior to her career in law, and while pursuing her master’s degree in biotechnology, Betsy worked closely with Fortune 500 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to assess the safety of therapeutic treatments in nonclinical trials.  In collaboration with research scientists and her clients, she designed, conducted, and summarized nonclinical regulatory programs, with varied mechanisms of action.  In her legal career, she has represented solo inventors as well as technology companies near the top of the Fortune 500 list.  In this capacity, she has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a variety of high-technology areas requiring cross-disciplinary backgrounds. Betsy has significant experience in computer sciences, drafting and prosecuting patents covering network management, network security, cloud computing, enterprise communication, data mining and analytics, and access point coordination, among others. Additionally, Betsy has significant experience in a range of chemical and life-science technologies including, for example: microfluidics, biologic and pharmaceutical drug development, toxicological and pharmacologic drug testing, drug discovery software, and point-of-care diagnostic equipment.

Betsy earned her law degree from Hamline University School of Law (now Mitchell Hamline School of Law), her master’s degree from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her undergraduate degree from The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.  Betsy has been an active member of the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association (“MIPLA”), as well as the Intellectual Property Owners Association.  As a former Division I collegiate swimmer, Betsy enjoys staying active.  In her spare time, she enjoys participating in yoga and fitness classes, hiking, and spending time her family.
