Paul doesn’t like surprises, and he has the experience to help clients avoid the unhappy ones. Spending the first decade of his legal career in the courtroom trying cases as a patent litigator developed Paul’s ability to “see around corners” during the patent prosecution process.
A partner of Dicke, Billig & Czaja, Paul focuses on U.S. and international patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, product clearance reviews, preparation of non-infringement and invalidity opinions and related intellectual property matters.
Paul’s primary areas of technical specialization are electronic, electrical, mechanical, and process technologies. He has expertise and experience in computer hardware and software, electrical devices, medical devices, storage devices, semiconductors, electrical clutches, automotive engine analyzers and injection molded plastics.
In addition to extensive experience in patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, Paul has litigated patent and trademark disputes in federal court, as well as trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Patent and Trademark Office.
Though it is no longer his focus, DBC does not allow Paul’s litigation experience to go untapped. The ultimate IP utility player, Paul continues to assist in the firm’s litigation of patent, trademark, copyright and related intellectual property disputes. Colleagues and clients alike benefit from his cool-headed and carefully reasoned approach to complex issues.
Named as a Super Lawyer by his peers, Paul successfully argued a pro bono case, State v. Cripps, before the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Paul received his law degree from the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the Environmental Moot Court.
In his time outside the office, Paul enjoys running, biking, skiing and spending time with his family. They know better than to throw surprise parties for him.
